Why?

This blog exists so that I can write about my medical experiences and my opinions. It might seem self-absorbed to throw up a blog when a personal journal kept at bedside would easily suffice. But I don't do it because I want people to read all about my life in medicine  (although when I write something too long to fit on facebook, I will link friends and acquaintances here)--I put up this blog to 1. encourage me to keep writing (I've been a writer all my life) and 2. keep an organized account of my medical experience (honestly, I've lost a great number of good journals in my life... and it's so much easier to type than to write).

Also, one of my dreams is to be able to publish educational newsletters for my patients. I see this as a kind of practice in communication.

Also also, another dream of mine is to bring atypical people into medicine--you know, people who, like me, aren't the best students, but are nevertheless really passionate about learning how to heal. If I can document my misadventures, maybe I can provide some form of comfort to future students "freaking out".
